Dream Turns Into a Mission

The 2012 season started off really good with not only making the features at Moler and finishing in the top 10 even after being called on a caution that was not caused by me and sent to the rear we had a good first race. Brownstown Indiana was another good night. A fast track with a ton of cars we qualified and even though the car was loose, loose  we had a good finish. 

Then I decided to race at a track that scares me it is the track where I first felt the need to race a dirt late model racecar. That night was in the fall of 2010 when i traveled to Ponderosa Speedway, "the baddest bullring in Kentucky". That weekend Ponderosa had 2 nights of racing one a 10,000 to win show!  In the feature 22 cars come around turn 4 for the start, my arms tingled with excitement, my heart rate went up and the sounds of the engines and the smell of the fuel hooked me in that moment. This is crazy I have to do it was my thought.

Spring of 2012 I traveled to Ponderosa a track with beautiful red clay, cement walls all the way around and when you drop in to the oval it feels as if you are in a gladiator ring. Scared excited never had to qualify with 2 solo laps that put one in their heats, then the heat races of 10 cars and we qualified! So excited to be in a feature in the baddest bullring 5 laps into the feature a crash on the backstretch I slam on the brakes to not get involved, brakes go to the floor and we are involved. The car won't turn and our race ends. We fix the car that night with the generosity of Victor Lee's shop, well at least we think it is fixed. The next night I have to go to the B-main to make it to the feature round and the car is just not working well, it is very inconsistent and I hit the wall out of turn 4 the car behind me takes me out and I am done and down for 10 days while we build a new car for me as that car was to badly bent to fix.

With a new car underneath me we head to Lake Cumberland Speedway it took us awhile to get the car to hook up but in the B-main still free in the center I come out in front and run #1 until a lap and a half to go, out of turn 2 going 3 wide we all just don't fit, I and car #2 hit the walls and the 3rd place car wins. We are done for the night.

The next race is rained out, so we travel to a 1/2 mile track the following night. The car is horrible it simply won't turn and drive through the corners with out throwing it in, double braking to get the rear tires to free up. We take some advice from a strong team and start 10th out of 22 cars for the feature. With 10 laps to go still running around 9-10th coming out of turn 2, I am door slammed the car that hits me looses it crosses over puts me up against the wall and his left side hooks the track and he flips, destroying his car and taking out my right and left front. Then this guy berates me in the pits telling me I should have never  been on the track and I hear his mother saying "it's the girls fault" over and over. I simply let him know I am glad he is okay and I walk away.

Later that week the video of the crash appears on many race sites and they even put up the video in slow motion to prove I was not at fault and the ridicule still continues. http://www.onedirt.com/news/video-oneal-vs-ratliff-at-florence-whos-to-blame/. 

Again I am down for a weekend while my car is at my favorite racers shop in Ohio, Rusty Schlenk's. I hope when I see him we get a car underneath me and this new car works out as we still have not found a good set up for it that works. I am headed to the Michigan dirt cup races at I-96 and Mt. Pleasant and then I will take some time to get myself together for "The Hell Tour".
